“How much for this dress?”, you ask.
“1000/-, madam”, they reply.
A few minutes later, you’re walking away with the same dress for just rupees 500!
We love a good deal when we shop and what better than walking away with bags and bag of newly shopped stuff for very cheap! Bangalore has the swankiest malls, luxe brands and the best brand stores but there’s a different kind of joy in street shopping here.
So hone those bargaining skills and put them to good use in these street-shopping hotspots of Bangalore:
1. Commercial Street
A shoppers paradise, commercial street has the best things to offer – right from clothes to jewellery, trinkets, accessories, bags, shoes, food and everything you could possibly think of. Prices start as low as Rs.150 for clothes, Rs.10 for trinkets, Rs.100 for shoes and bags and the list goes on. You can even find silver jewellery in quirky, ethnic and unique designs.
There is a whole lane dedicated to shoes, one for ethnic wear and many leather stores offering great deals. You could even shop a whole designer-look ensemble in just Rs.1000 (watch video here).
2. Safina Plaza
A goldmine for ethnic wear and home decor items, Safina Plaza offers you rich designs at very low prices. 3. Avenue Road
Your fix for a good weekend read is here. You’d find massive stacks of books here, most of them used, but in good condition nevertheless. Avenue road is one of the biggest and busiest shopping areas of the city, known predominantly for its books and garments and textiles and jewellery. You would also find electronics, clothes, trinkets and handicraft stores on this street. A bookworm’s paradise, second hand books are available at very cheap rates. Feast your eyes on the massive stacks and piles of books as your walk on the streets here!
That one place every girl gets completely spoilt for choice! The best places to shop for sarees and rich and colourful Indian wear. Chickpet is one of the oldest market places in Bangalore and dates back to almost 400 years ago. Fancy designs, intricate weave, rich embellishments, the sarees here are the best you would find and with rates that would not hurt your wallet and leave you with enough to buy some good looking jewellery from the next store.
5. Brigade Road
Get ready to indulge in a crazy shopping spree at Bangalore’s most popular street! The road is dotted with shops selling clothes, shoes, bags, accessories, spices, handicrafts, books, jewellery and other items. Bargaining would be the key skill you’d need to possess here as the first price they’d mention is about 2-3 times of what you could actually buy it at! What’s awesome about Brigade Road is the number of food joints to help you refill at every tiring break from shopping.
