Did you know that Kochi’s English name is actually a homage to China? That’s right, Cochin (or Co-Chin) means “like China”! But, where does this come from? Believe it or not, but a lot of it has to do with fishing!
That’s right – China’s enduring legacy in Kochi is the gigantic shore-based fishing nets that the local fisherman still use to date! Not only is it still a great source of fish for the city, but due to its cultural impact, it has also become a major tourist attraction in the nearby model tourism village of Kumbalangi.
