Bangalore based B2B e-commerce company, ShopX connects kirana stores in faraway towns in India with branded companies who sell products. It was started in 2015 ans has more than 70,000 kirana stores on their platform.
Talking to TheBigScope for The Boss Game show, Amit Sharma says that he once met a pan shop owner who sold shoes in Vijaywada to students living in hostel through his platform.
Sharma says that the e-commerce is otherwise pretty elitist in India and they are trying to bring all mom and pop shops on their platform. “People mostly buy smartphones online. There are so many things left to be bought online and so many millions can use this to maximize profits.”
Similar platforms which work in the B2B e-commerce field are SnapBizz and StoreKing. According to a MoneyControl report, ShopX sold more than 300 iphone units in Tier 2 and 3 towns and uses surface transport companies to shop the goods unlike Amazon who air ship the products.
The startup has raised $35 million from Nandan Nilekani and Fung strategic holdings.
