Why Ad Guru Prahlad Kakar Loves Drop-Outs & Drug Addicts



In this episode of TheBossGame, we talk to maveric advertising guru of India, Prahlad Kakar. Kakar talks about various advertisement campaign he launched for Pepsi over the years, his love for dropouts and drug addicts, his admiration for Amitabh Bachchan and why Bollywood will always be averse to outsiders in the industry.

He is a man of many hats. He not only has directed ads with Sachin Tendulkar and Shah Rukh Khan but also teaches scuba diving and entrepreneurship. He opened Lacadives in 1995 on Kadmat Island in collaboration with Government of Lakshadweep.

Kakar also says how Bollywood as an entertainment industry is run by six influential families and will never be open to outsiders. He says that it will never make economical sense to promote somehow outside the industry.”Ins pite of flops, they will launch and re launch their sons and daugters. Only very few have made it to the top.”

He even said that during his college days in Pune, one of friends renamed him Robin as he was notoriously famous in walking 100 metres to the girls hostel to make conversations.

Kakar says he believes in drops and drug outs as they make the best students unlike the regular first benchers in society. He says he loves to take in such students and make entrepneurs out of them in his school, The Prahlad Kakar School of Branding and Entrepreneurship.

During the interview, he kept reminiscing how the ads around Pepsi has lost its way and he would love to go back in time and create ads for them again.

Kakar has worked with legendary film directors like Shyam Benegal and after working with the likes of him, he founded Genesis Film Productions in 1977. He also co founded ReefWatch Marine Conversation to create awareness around marine life.
